Something New
Lately, I’ve found myself doing things that, this time last year, I wouldn’t even have considered possible.
I won’t share every detail on the internet, but some of the decisions I’ve been making feel significant. Bold, even. Depending on who you ask, perhaps a little reckless. There are moments when I wonder if I’m taking a huge risk, and then there are moments when I realise that every dream I’ve written about here requires some degree of courage.
Maybe it’s not recklessness at all. Maybe it’s simply choosing to believe that the life I’m hoping to build is worth pursuing.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know I’ve shared some of my goals for this year. Let’s just say a few recent decisions have been shaped by those ambitions. The idea of stepping away from what feels familiar and secure, with no guarantee of what comes next, is understandably daunting. But increasingly, I’m finding myself leaning towards possibility rather than certainty.
Alongside that, I’m continuing to explore new creative avenues. I’ve decided to revisit stationery design and recently had the opportunity to design an invitation for a friend’s baby shower. Considering how little I’ve used my InDesign subscription so far, it feels like the perfect excuse to dust it off and put it to work.
What’s surprised me most, though, is how different life feels compared to a few months ago.
The chaos hasn’t completely disappeared, but things are beginning to make sense again. Or perhaps I’ve simply become more comfortable not having all the answers.
I’m saying yes to opportunities that I might once have avoided. I’m challenging myself more often. I’m learning that discomfort isn’t always something to run from; that sometimes it’s a sign of growth.
I’m learning when to speak up and when to stay quiet. I’m learning that asking for help isn’t a weakness. And perhaps most importantly, I’m learning that I don’t have to do everything alone.
As an only child, I’ve often fallen into the trap of thinking that I should be able to figure things out by myself. But this season has reminded me how fortunate I am to have family and friends who have encouraged me, supported me, and stood beside me when I’ve needed them.
So perhaps the newest thing I’m working on isn’t a design, a project, or even a career change.
Perhaps it’s me. And honestly, I quite like who she’s becoming. 🌿
